1What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2By no means. How shall we, who are dead to sin, live in it any longer? 3Do you not know, that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4Therefore, we were buried with him by baptism into death: so that as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also might walk in newness of life. 5For if we have been united with him by sharing a death like his, so shall we also share a resurrection like his: 6Knowing this, that our old man has been crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should no longer be enslaved by sin. 7For he who has died is freed from sin. 8Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: 9Knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, will never die again: death no longer has power over him. 10For in his death, he died to sin once for all: but in his life, he lives to God. 11In the same way, consider yourselves also to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12Therefore, do not let sin reign in your mortal bodies, to make you obey its lusts. 13Do not yield your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness: but yield yourselves to God, as those who are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14For sin shall not be your master: for you are not under the law, but under grace. 15What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? By no means. 16Do you not know that if you yield yourselves as slaves to obey someone, you are slaves of the one you obey; whether of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17But thanks be to God, that you who were once the slaves of sin, have obeyed from the heart that standard of teaching which was entrusted to you. 18Being then set free from sin, you became the slaves of righteousness. 19I speak after the manner of men, because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as you have yielded your members as slaves to uncleanness and to ever increasing iniquity; so now yield your members as slaves to righteousness, leading to holiness. 20For when you were the slaves of sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. 21But what benefit did you get from those things of which you are now ashamed? for the result of those things is death. 22But now, having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you gain the benefit that leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. 23For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
