1Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you be ignorant. 2You know that when you were pagans, you were carried away by these dumb idols, however you were led. 3Therefore, I want you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit. 4Now there are various kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5And there are various kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6And there are various kinds of working, but it is the same God who works all of them in all men. 7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each man for the common good. 8For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by that one Spirit; 10To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another various kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11But all these things are by one and the same Spirit, who distributes to every man as he wills. 12For just as the body is one, and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body: so it is with Christ. 13For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slave or free; and have all been made to drink of one Spirit. 14For the body is not one member, but many. 15If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not part of the body; is it therefore not part of the body? 16And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not part of the body; is it therefore not part of the body? 17If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the sense of smell be? 18But now God has set the members, every one of them, in the body, as it has pleased him. 19And if they were all one member, where would the body be? 20But as it is, there are many members, yet one body. 21And the eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of you: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. 22No, those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are the most necessary: 23And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our unpresentable parts are treated with special modesty, 24Of which our presentable parts have no need: but God has composed the body, giving more abundant honour to that part which lacked it: 25That there should be no division in the body; but that the members should have the same care for one another. 26And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it; or if one member is honoured, all the members rejoice with it. 27Now you are the body of Christ, and individually members of it. 28And God has appointed in the church, first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, after that workers of miracles, then those with gifts of healing, helpers, administrators, and those who speak in different tongues. 29Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? 30Do all have gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? 31But earnestly desire the best gifts: and yet I will show you a more excellent way.
